Here come the fires :(

At 8.10am this morning, when I was on Parramatta Road heading for work it was already 30 degrees. As I type this, there are two serious fires burning around Sydney. The one at Engadine has already claimed eight homes, so any and all good thoughts and prayers that could be spared for us lot down here would be greatly appreciated.

We've had hardly any rain at all for months; much of the country is drought-declared, and already it's this hot...

And it's only early October yet

80 fires are burning across the state.

Oh, Jeez...

How scary! Is this a yearly thing in Spring down there? My state is also in a drought situation to the point where new home construction has been halted in 3 towns as not to tax the water supply which is already low. Much of our area is still using septic systems.

Doing my rain dance and hoping homes, lives and the critters are spared!

Hugs,
Mermaid

EEEP!

I sure wish ya'll could break out of that horrible drought! I was reading that 93% of NSW is in a 6 month drought! Yuk.

On a personal note - we needed rain here too (the hurricanes etc never came this way) It started raining yesterday! Yippee!

Of course, it's STILL raining, and now we are in a flash flood situation. Supposed to keep raining till Thursday. Ahh... the joys of central Texas - home of the flash flood!

's ok tho. Our hous is on the side of a hill, and not too close to a creek. I think it would have to be something really catastrophic before we saw water inside. IE ... a dam break (there are like 7 dams along the Colorado River that goes through Austin.) or something equally bad.

Mermaid, it's not normally a year to year thing, although the risk is there just about every year. We go through cycles, normally. But this time around, there's a very very strong chance we could have a dreadful bushfire season, given that we've had very little rain for so long, and the bush (much of which has barely regenerated from last Christmas) is tinder dry again, so I think we all knew we'd be facing a second bad season in a row

'shana, I so wish some of that rain could come our way. Yes, the drought is very bad. There's going to be a Farm Hand Concert to aid our farmers, whose backs are against the wall right now, in a week or two. I hope you DO manage to stay dry - you guys have had a bad year rain-wise, haven't you? The world's weather has truly gone mad. I can't help thinking that Mother Nature is now taking revenge for the terrible way the human race has been exploiting the planet You stay away from any areas that might have flash floods, y'hear?

Thanks Shams. I'm usually pretty safe (please God). It's Fayee and Therese and Baeori who could be facing the worst risk

We've had a weird year weatherwise. We were in a massive drought, and then had flash flooding. Then no rain, then tons of rain.

I think we may be almost up to our yearly average rainfall after being so far back, but the rain has come in such great amounts that most of it has run off.

I'll keep thinkin about ya'll

Thank you Kel!

Thanks Shait.

Well, it's eased today. Temp. is somewhat lower, and they seem to have a good handle on the fires for now, so that's good. Even had some sprinkles of rain, but nowhere near anything significant.

Here's hoping this ease up continues and that you guys get some significant rain.

Please be careful.

Go figure - the fire day it was a heatwave, and the next day it was wintery... (Shakes head)

Elvis, the flying water bomber copter, and two of his buddies are on their way down here for the start of the bushfire season, courtesy of you guys in the US.
