"Good evening everyone! My name is Sally, and I'll be your tour guide this evening. I see everyone is buckled up and ready to go. Good. We'll start today's tour.
If you'll look to the left of the bus, you'll see our first forum of the evening. It's one of the smaller forums on our tour. If you remember some of the other forums from previous tours, some of the larger forums are divided into sections. This sometimes causes confussion to newbies.
Yes sir? You have a question?"

"Yes. This is my first tour and I was wondering what a 'newbie' is."

"A very good question. A 'newbie' is what the more experienced forum goers refer to a new person on their forum. I guess we could say that you're a newbie to our tour.<<insert smile>>
Most of the people on these forums are helpful and friendly to newbies. But there are some that are not so helpful and tend to either ingore the newbies, or are just not very nice.

Ok. On with our tour.
The forum on the left here is one of the smaller ones, but it's one of the nicest. It was rated as a 9 out 10 in our review guide. As you'll see the only reason that it didn't rate a 10 is because some of the ladies on this forum tend to get a little out hand. And I think the word the reviewer used was 'randy'. But I guess that's what happens when 98% of the forum population is women! <<insert laugh>>

Yes ma'am? You have question?"

"Yes, thank you. You said that 98% of the population on this. forum was women. Is that by choice? Was the forum set up this way?"

"Another good question!
No, the forum wasn't set up this way. It was set up after the original 'Hercules:The Legendary Journeys' forum disbanded. When that forum closed some of it's members scrambled to set up some of these types of forums so that they could keep in touch with each other until they could all come together at a new forum. Well, most either stayed at these types of forums, or they moved on to some of the bigger ones. Although, there are some members that float between several different forums. Did that answer your question?"

"Yes, thank you. But you said the original one was closed down. Why did that happen? And does it happen often?"

"It was closed down shortly after the show was canceled. In general forums don't just close down, but there are some out there that do for reasons only the owners and operators can tell you. It's a sad part of online fandom. <<shakes head sadly>>

Yes ma'am? In the back there. You have a question?"

"Fandom to one person may not mean the same thing to another person. Are there other things discussed on these forums? I mean, you can only talk about some things before the subject gets old."

"A very good point. On this forum they are very relaxed and casual about their topics and discussions. Of course there are some things that they won't put up with. Like porno, unnessersary foul language, meaness. That sort of thing. But pretty much anything and everything is open for discussion. Like I said earlier, it's a small forum so you won't see all the different little off-shoot forums. This one is pretty much one big dorm room! <<insert laugh>>
Anyone else?"
"Ok, if everyone has had a good look around, we'll move onto our next forum. Yes sir?"

"I was wondering. Why are some forums so much more strict then others? I would think that the purpose of the whole online fandom thing was to have fun and maybe meet new people from all over the world? Some of the forums I've seen on this tour I don't think I would be happy at. Even if I was a big fan of the show or person the forum was set up for. Some of them seem more worried about rules than about having fun."

"Well, sir you've made a good point and this has been a hot topic for some time on many different foums. And sadly, it will be a hot topic for many years to come. And I'm sorry to say that I don't know why some forums are set up the way they are. That would be a question that only the owners of those forums could answer for you. <<insert small sad smile>>"

"Now then. If you'll look at your tour books, you'll see that the next forum on our tour is a much bigger one. And has many small off-shot forums. This one is going to take some time ladies and gentleman. How many are ready to stretch their legs a bit........?"
