...just thought I'd bounce in (cos all I'm doing these days is bouncing :D ) and say "I'm outta HERE and goin' THERE!" Actually, what I'm doing and have done is... I resigned on Friday, with my last day of work at the University of Sydney Friday, October 22. On Monday, October 25, the removalists come in and pack me up (I LOVE it that they pack for me :D :D :D :D ), Tuesday is uplift day, when they take my stuff, and Wednesday morning at 7.05am I leave Sydney for a new life, job and home in Perth :D :D :D

Just spent the long weekend working like a beaver on my unit. I did the three large bookcases, and had nooooo idea that dust could (coughcough) solidify, LOL! Still heaps to do, but with heaps done it's pretty much downhill from here :D

Moving is exciting enough, but, across the country to a new everything is enough to uncontain yourself!! Who will arrive first to Perth, you or your stuff? Have you picked out a new place to live yet? What will your new carrer be?

And how big of a grin did you have when you resigned?
Let the physics faculty fend for themselves I say! What sweet revenge! I say this because it's only Tuesday and I want to flush the faculty here to another place!!!! GGRRRRRRRRR!!>

LOLOLOL! It's so exciting! Laurissa and Alexander the Great are every bit as excited as I am, as are her parents and sister. Her sister passed her medical (which is a major step on the way to emigrating her for her) on Friday, the same day I resigned, so we all thought that was a very major omen and altogether great sign :D I'll get to Perth before my stuff. The movers will place my stuff in storage, in its container, here, then pack the rest of the container with someone else's stuff who is moving to Perth (bad English that, I know, LOL!). And when I get a place, I'll let them know and they'll send it over, which should take 3-4 days. I'm feverishly looking on the net at homes in the north area of Perth (where Riz, her hubby and Alex live), and I'd really like to live around Morley, Ballajura, Dianella, Balga...somewhere like that. For way less than I'm paying here a week for a one bedroom unit, I can have a 2-3 bedroom house over there. Mind you, salaries are lower over there (but so is cost of living). I'm signed with two agencies, one a library placement one and the other a general placement one. The general agency signed a contract on September 1 to fill all temp. positions in government departments and agencies all around Perth, and when I called them and gave them a run-down on my experience and skills (and sent across my cv), they said they have jobs falling out of the ceiling and will be able to place me immediately, given my experience. Have to say, after this place, I'm looking forward to temping for a while - temping is great, no responsibilities, LOL. You go in, do the job and don't have to get involved in anything like office politics (which I just loathe). The first few days Riz and I will be working on the job thing, and then probably that weekend we'll go house hunting. So {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{'shana}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} You'll HAVE to come to Perth and visit - there'll be a whole bedroom waiting for you this time, LOLOL! Seriously, Perth is just lovely and very different to Sydney in looks, feel, lifestyle, culture and people. I so hope you do come over!

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{Mermaid}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} Don't they just drive you crazy?!!! Hope the week gets better! You nailed it, hon, very, very sweet revenge. I dunno if I told you guys, but in March last year I got a promotion and became (cringes at loooooong title): Faculty Liaison Librarian, Mathematics and Physics. I've really loved the job. Lots of information literacy teaching of all levels right up to academics, and recently even teaching a strategic information retrieval session for Medical Physics postgrads that was embedded in their course, complete with assignment for them. It was worth 15% of total marks for their unit. I really loved and enjoyed the challenge of that. I've loved working with the Maths and Physics people and seeing them as clients. But what I've just hated has been the despicable way Library administration (especially our Head of Division - who is good at talking herself up, but couldn't run a chook raffle, and is soooo adept at putting the blame onto others for her own mistakes) treats staff. Eg, at the moment, I no longer have a desk. Haven't had one for a few months now. I think, and I know I'm not alone in this, that it's a basic human right to have a space in the workplace that one can call their own. I wander like a Bedouin between three libraries, and if I'm lucky I'll have two hours in Maths and two in Physics each day. If I'm especially unlucky (or maybe I should say if my clients are especially unlucky) it can be 2-3 days before I see them at all. The idiot who runs our division hasn't any concept of the amount of business that gets done informally over the counter when I'm in either location. And it's been no use my repeatedly telling the physics and maths mobs enmasse that they can contact me by email or phone (phone contact is useless - they have to play a lottery to guess which phone I'll be on at any given time during the day. As a result, I'm losing contact with them in spite of my best efforts not to. (Rant over, LOL!)
