Galveston county (where I live) will be under mandatory evacuation tomorrow at 6:00 PM. I'm leaving in the morning. I'm packing now, and trying to secure everything that I am leaving behind. Just taking important papers, violin, some clothes, my gradebook (the school told us to keep our gradebooks with us), and the cat.
I'll head for my mother's farmhouse in Hallettsville, and maybe we'll go on to Austin if it looks like we're still in the path of Rita.
Hope to talk to y'all again soon.

Take care!!!! Drive carefully!
I haven't heard back from my Texas City friends ... but they evacuate on a regular basis.
My cousins near The Woodlands are staying put as far as I know - they're out of surge danger but not the wind.
As far as us - Austin will get some of this - but nothing like on the coast.

I'm glad everyone here is ok. I wish the same could be said for all those other poor people in LA and other areas
