OT: Heads Up AOL users!

HI all, this is a copy of an email I've already sent to all aol users in my addy book, so some of you have already gotten this from me, but thought I'd better post it here too:

Hi,
Just a heads up warning for you, and please forward to any AOL users in your addy book. There is a scam going around where the email says you need to go to the link to update your billing info, and put in a new credit card number, etc. This all looks very official, but I just spoke to Greg at AOL Customer Service, and it is a SCAM...DO NOT, repeat, DO NOT input your credit card or other info into this page. It looks very official, but it may or may not be sent to the master screen account holder. Mine was sent to my teen, and he forwarded it to me.
Enclosed is the actual email he got from them, so you know what it looks like.

Repeat, this is a scam, it looks so official and they even put in AOL's actual customer service number!
Good luck, and thanks for letting others in your addy list know about it!
love and hugs,
Mel/Sapph

for the heads up on the AOHell scam. I never pay any attention to them because I fell for that "once". I keep up to date on my own - checking my credit card & all the rest of the info I need to. Thanks again!

Hugs,
Shait/AOLHeller

I've been there.....

August 2 2001, 3:53 PM

When I had AOL I got something very similar to this saying that I needed to update my info.... The next time I logged on to AOL, I was told that my membership was pending.
Well, needless to say I called 'em and found out that someone sent out over 600 emails from my account! They asked me if I had given my password to anyone? NO! I know better than that! Well, after some talking and some yelling, we figured out that someone had scamed me out of my password and used it, over 600 times!
I learned my lesson let me tell ya'!

This sounds like just the thing that someone would pull on people that aren't as "computer smart" as we are now. My father-in-law is on AOL (against my wishes! LOL!), I'll be sure to send him a copy of this ASAP. He's still learning this "computer thing".
Thanx for the heads up!

Thank you!

I don't use AOL, but I know people who do. I'll alert them of this.

Thanks again!

Shhh,
Whisper
