Healthy Goal Report

I went shopping today, and instead of a small basket with peanut butter, white bread, dunkin doughnut sticks, and chocolate candy, I got a BIG CART and bought: apples, potatoes, frozen carrots, corn, green beans, and squash; stone ground whole wheat bread, Benecol, black bean soup, tomato soup, brown rice, light vinaigrette dressing, and lettuce salad in a bag. I imagine the novelty of such things will make the first days pleasant. LOL I tried the whole wheat bread and Benecol and it is delicious.

How did the rest of y'all fare?

YGG!!!!

That's what I did Thursday night. Lots and lots of veggies. I'm going to microwave some of them tonight, in some low-salt soy sauce, and maybe have them with a salmon steak. for dinner last night I had some chicken madras samosas (dry, far less fatty pastry covering - not oily at all) - microwaved them and had them with some tzadziki - low fat yoghurt with garlic and cucumber. Just to die for I'm afraid I did have a few bikkies too, but overall I'm doing much better. Oh yeah, had a glass of red wine too.

Today I'm getting some multigrain bread (love it).

Sounds like you are off to a great start!

I forgot to say I got Cheerios and skim milk too. And worscheshire sauce to flavor the potatoes.

Had to throw out the last part of a carton of mint chocolate chip ice cream to make room in the freezer for the veggies!

Ohhhh....

I hadn't thought of Worcestshire sauce to flavour the potatoes! What a great idea! I love that too! Must get potatoes then, LOL. AND some low-fat yoghurt for them too

Off to the dr. in two hours to discuss my cholesterol. I have a feeling she's going to put me on medication. She dropped me a note after my last test to say she wants to see me, so... but after dad died, I just hit a steady died of comfort food. Don't feel sorry I did that too, since the alternative was too awful to face. But I'm starting to move forward again now. I want to.

for just about anything--good or bad! LOL

Good going for both of you!

Okay,

September 7 2001, 8:23 PM

I did alright today. I had two bowls of oatmeal (b-fast and lunch -- I LOVE oatmeal), two slices of veggie pizza, one salad with dressing on the side, and a small piece of cake (it was a b-day pty for a friend). It wasn't the best I could do, but far better than it could've been, given the party. Oh, I also had three bottles of water.

For exercise, I did a heap of housework very fast. Music on, TV off; I'm tellin' you it was actually aerobic! I also worked on cheers and a chant with my girls for about 40 minutes (nobody realizes just how tiring that is). You can't just watch; you have to participate. I'll do my toning tonight.

Good work girls!

Shhh,
Whisper

Thanks Shams and Whisper Hey, Whisper, you're doing GREAT! 'shana, that sounds an interesting mix, LOL! No salmon? I'm SHOCKED!

Ok, I had avocado on toast for brekkie (it contains the good fats that people with high cholesterol need, and my dr told me to knock myself out eating them if I wanted - good thing too, because I LOVE 'em), nachos (ok, muy bad) and a mango and strawberry frappe (instead of a capuccino) for lunch. Might skip dinner.

Saw my doctor. Nearly fell of the scales when she told me I'd LOST two kilos seeing I haven't been remotely trying. Then she showed me a rubber mock-up of a kilo of fat, and said to double that, and I nearly fainted. That's an awful lot of stuff to lose, so I was pleased. On the other hand, though, my cholesterol has shot up from 6.3 to 7, and she's not at all happy with that. But I told her I'm working on it seriously now and she desisted with the medication idea

Everyone's doing GREAT! I've been unbelieveably busy today. Two games at which the girls needed to cheer (they take three hours each), a birthday party, and shopping for the party. I am STARVING! I ate one muffin, a small salad, and two chicken tacos (plus about a gallon of water). I'm thinking of having something here in a bit.

As far as exercise, I don't know if I have the strength! LOL!

Shhh,
Whisper

Hopefully, shopping tomorrow!!

Alrighty! Add two pieces of toast with BUTTER, a glass of milk, and two cookies! Yeah! I feel better already!

Guess I better ride that bike after all tonight!

Dec 31

December 31 2001, 8:31 AM

Ya know, I think we all felt like reverting to comfort food a few days after this thread in September.

How are we doing?

This is a good time to renew our goals.

I finally joined a gym the last week in November and to my surprise I really love it. There are 9 tv's to watch while using the cardio machines and you can bring headphones and hear the sound. And my favorite is the wet area, with steam room, sauna, indoor swimming pool, and whirlpool. It is the reward for the hour in the sweaty part.

Foodwise I have given in to some chocolate. But I have stuck with the stone ground whole wheat bread and Benecol.

I was supposed to repeat my cholesterol test in early Decemeber, but I didn't bother. I figured I hadn't seriously done enough to check for improvement yet.

Okay... who did a better job than I did? I'll see it as encouragement, not gloating...

sounds great!

I had planned to join the gym in December, after I got back from my last trip.... but I haven't.

Right now my allergies are so bad that I'm a bit afraid of working out - I'm wheezing just going up the stairs at home. But as soon as cedar season's over... I'll be working out.

I was unexpectedly in Austin two nights last week, and wished I knew how to find you...

Gettin' a bit nippy, ain't it?

I've done a horrible job! I completely missed the healthy boat and ended up traveling by junk food barge. I am going to do better!

I am going to get my act together!

I am going to make this work!

Move over Whisper

January 1 2002, 11:45 AM

I flunked awfully the last two months or so. But I have a feeling this year is going to change things for me in a positive way, so I'm hopeful!

I have kept up the anti-cholesterol stuff though, so I might go see my dr some time this month to see how it is.

Hugs,
Kendaa
