...I've got to know where you took that "Banner" shot, and how difficult it was to get.

I'm going to the B-Dub for 8 days of basecamping starting July 5. My goal is to get some good shots of moose. Any help on best times of day to obtain these would be appreciated. Great Shot!

Thanks,

Madl

Is that the B-dub? I've heard that the best place to photograph moose is Isle Royale...

This was indeed....

... shot in the b-dub. Last year on my June solo, on Hope Creek close to where it empties into Insula (SE part of Insula). It was a travel day and I was on my way from Hope Lake to Hudson. The shot was taken at about 10:00 in the morning. I was just paddling along when I caught a movement out of the corner of my eye. First of all, I only saw Mama, then I saw one, then both calves (you do see both of them in the picture don't you?).

When I travel, I usually hang my Olympus Stylus 140 (Point and Shoot with 38-140mm zoom) around my neck so it's handy. I was able to grab the camera, zoom out to 140, and capture a sequence of 4-5 pictures before they wandered off into the underbrush. I admit to doing some further, digital zooming (about 2:1) on my computer after scanning)

On that 8 day trip, I saw moose on 5 of the days. I saw some of the moose multiple times. Total of 10-11 moose (including 2 cows with twins). I saw them at all times of the day. The best thing to do is to travel as quietly as possible and have a camera handy. I'm not even sure the quiet part is all that important -- my most successful moose sighting trip was one I took with some Boys Scouts who definitely were NOT keeping quiet. I like to be as quiet as possible anyway -- especially when soloing.

Glad y'all like the shot!

Larry

...I hope I bring back some shots of Moose to share on the board.

BTW, I hadn't noticed the second calf until you mentioned it!
