they were surprised. They weren't expecting an Earth Force ship of the line to track them back to their homeworld and certainly weren't at battlestations when the Agamemnon dropped out of hyperspace.
Most Streib weaponry disables other ships. Their weapons are predominantly designed to aid them in capturing fighters, though the offensive weapons they do mount are extremely respectable. Their main advantages are insanely high armor values. On a scale of one to ten, the highest armor value on an Omega is a 6. Hell, the highest armor value on a Sharlin is a 6 as well (it's the mass and internal structure that makes Sharlins harder to kill and ultimately more durable). The highest armor value on a Streib Collector Ship is a 9!!! The LOWEST armor value is a 5! Compare that to the low-end values of 2 on both the Omega and Sharlin (on the small weapons which are hard to armor).
So basically, the Streib would be scary bastards if they were into conquest... As it is, with their penchant for keeping to themselves, kidnapping people surreptitiously, and building their ships for kidnapping missions rather than straight-up combat, their ships are no more dangerous than those of any other major power.
