I would normally agree with you about your comments however, the Stabilizer is where the Trainer and the Horse is in contact with each other and the horse knows the Trainer is causing the punishment. He sees it, smells it, hears us and feels us reinforcing punishment into their tender mouths. It also causes direct pain if not carefully used. Some will argue it only adds pressure…but most honest horse enthusiasts will agree it would be painful to use on the horse. I don’t agree with painful reinforcement. However, with the Vice Breaker...(that I am seriously considering ordering)...this device has the horse coming to it's owner having no idea the owner just enforced correction on the horse. I can see where my Stallion (Dude) would come to me for positive reinforcement. Mr. Stallion that is about to take a chunk out of a yearling and then - ZAP! Just a momentary pulsed feeling…(and yes…I know this feeling because I bought one of those EMS machines and there's NO pain)...and then…he stops…perhaps flips out momentarily, but learns there is consequences for his actions. That is what is amazing with animals…they have the ability to learn. It doesn’t mean we are cruel teaching them as long as they are not in pain or suffering. And so he looks at the yearling and thinks…”Do I really want to take that bite…?” And perhaps he will try again…because after all it’s in his nature…and then ZAP!!! Oh Ok.…now I am sure he is getting the idea… I will then walk over to him…and he will not know that I did the Zap because all of a sudden I am the one petting his strong jaw and not causing him any discomfort… He only sees me smiling and soothing him and he needs that because by now his jaw is set and he’s thinking he's met his match with that little yearling and needing positive reinforcement. I am giving him something else to think about …ME! I understand all of you that feels strongly about anything that seems abusive to an animal. But think about this...and perhaps it seems simplistic, but if you get a bird, you cage it, feed it and train it. Get fish...we cage it. Look what they do with those dolphins in the Gulf for the Military? Get a Dog we pull out the training devices too and the cat we mount our balloons on the furniture to keep them from clawing and scare them from popping balloons in their sweet little faces and so on and on we can go. I don't know about you...but I must say when that cat scoots off once the balloon pops..well...frankly...it rips me up... We use anything we can think of for many reasonable reasons to keep our pets under a certian amount of control… We read "how-to" books…roll up papers…put on chains, muzzles, leashes - you name it…we do it to train them and control them. We also de-claw, clip, shampoo, worm, neuter, spade, cage, shots…you name it…the humans do it all to the animals for what???? Heck…we even clothe some of them. Why? To gain control while feeling we are doing that animal a “favor” against something it would obviously not have been done in the wild. The good book said man is to have dominion over the animals. The ViceBreaker it would seem to me, is a device that causes no pain or agony, gives instant attention to a negative situation...and then there is greater joy for the horse and owner – making the owner…a responsible keeper of a beautiful animal while trying to keep it safe and trained and yes…caged up or fenced in…and yes….because we want them in our lives. A horse running through fences, attacking your herd, and other negative things will only cause harm and be deemed as unruly. I feel...if used with dignity and responsibly, the ViceBreaker can be a positive reinforcement for the Horse while showing the owner is responsible for the animal(s) in his/her care. Yes, there are those that will undoubtedly abuse it. Personally I would like to put a Bit in their mouth or have them Zapped for our own entertainment. But for the rest of you, I salute those of you who try to curb unruly vices that can cause further harm to these magnificent animals! It's cruel not to train them quickly and efficiently since we as individuals have chose to corral these animals that would normally be in the wild if not for the human creatures. For those individuals that work and labor to simplify our lives and that try to humanly help us train these beautiful creatures…”Thank You!” Your hard work is duly noted by this Midwestern Girl. Just my two cents from someone that is about to buy one when I can afford it. Thank you.
