The Vicebreaker

I was intrigued by the concept of the Vicebreaker, however I would like to see some testimonials from some UK users before I could consider it. I have the use of a lovely big gelding who is an angel outside his stable, but, inside it he's awful! Anyone who dares to pass gets lunged at with ears flat back and nostrils flared, he looks terrifying. Both I and his owner know that he's not serious, but he's pretty convincing!! I can reasonably handle him with confidence, but I would love to cure this problem as he really is the most lovely animal when not in "Freddy Kruger" mode! I try to push him away and shout "No!" when he displays this aggression, then praise and fuss him when he's being cute and loving. I really don't belive in belting horses when they behave like this so if the Vicebreaker is proved to be effective and humane then I think it has a place. However it could so easily be misused. Anybody got any further information?

I think people can do sufficient damage to horses already with whips, spurs etc etc. I really don't think we need any other gadgets to help us mistreat our horses. I believe there are humane and kindly solutions to all the problems mentioned in the article and I think this product will only appeal to those wanting some kind of 'quick fix'. I also think it could be dangerous to humans as well, I wouldn't want to be anywhere near a horse that has just been given an electric shock! Also, how does it differ from a cattle prod? I bet it doesn't much, except maybe in how much it sells for!

Responding to the person who has trouble with the horse lunging at her in his stall.
Sounds to me as if this is a very unhappily confined guy.
It is not natural to keep horses confined, why don't you try leaving him in a situation where he can go in and out at will with a companion.
I have kept horses this way for years, and find that they definitely are much happier with this kind of life.
I am an animal communicater, former hunter jumper rider, currently doing dressage.
Good luck. Annette
