I agree that limited resources will prevent PMA's from becoming "superhighwayed." by...

individual portage clearing efforts. PortageKeeper made much the same point with his discussion of the evolution to the current PMA mangement approach by the Forest Service...the Forest Service, itself, lacks the resources to maintain these "off the beaten path" areas.

At the risk of stating the obvious, I would also suggest a couple more reasons I see no threat to the tranquility of PMA's, private clearing efforts or no.

First...these are out of the way areas. They take a long time to get to. To access them requires more effort than the vast majority of visitors are willing to expend.

Second...Even if one does have the volition to go there, you aren't going to find Shangri-La. There are no big, beautiful, deep-water lakes in the PMA's. If there were these amenities, they would not be PMA's...they would be "superhighwayed"...like Kekekabic...for example.

I don't think any of us need fear PMA's becoming the equivalent of Coney Island, which was the subject of Yodi Berra's famous comment: "Nobody goes there anymore...It's too crowded."
