The start of a great thread! I went into the Knife River area a week after....

by Charles Eckroth (Login ToughOldBird)

the great storm with my five times paddling partner, Jim.
We began to see considerable damage the first morning in Moose and Newfound lakes, but the worst we saw was in the south arm of Knife Lake. Our second campsite (for two nights) was near Thunder Point where we had big blowdowns right in camp and the really scarry case of an Alumacraft canoe folded in half just behind where we pitched our tent! FS crews had begun the tree clearing and we met one of these at the start of the Little Knife to Ottertrack portage, where they were taking a noon lunch break. Seeing the aftermath, we did not regret missing the storm "live". I'm eagerly waiting to read of other listers who were there during the actual storm.
