Geo- it is late, but my memory recalls that lower Bas. Falls

by (Login canoebear)

is right at the drop into Crooked not far from the pictos. I don't remember a real portage. Coming in from Horse, a pine needle covered bank and path, and a bit of a walk down to the rocks to put in again. A soft path. Before I open my mouth too much, guess I should go to the basement and get the maps out. I'm sure others have info. Horse is a sweet river if the water is up. Quite a bit of rocks, but easliy navigated. Even in low water I have walked the middle of the river, pulling the canoe, where it is sand and bolders. It just takes time, not dangerous. I have seen some of the greatest otters in that area and Mergansers. Just don't miss the last portage on Horse (on left of river bank), just before Basswood. Nasty rapids are hidden in an innocent looking little plot of water in front of the portage. Voice of experience. :-o red face
I'll let the experst compare and contrast. Ug-- English 102 finals, compare and contrast... gives me the shivers....
