Eastern Quetico routes..

by (Login CreekGuy)

Esteemed paddlers,

I'm planning an early June trip to Quetico and would like to see some of the eastern part of the park. Our last two trips have been in the Brent/Darky lake areas; once coming from the west through Bottle Portage and Argo and out through the Black Robe portage, the other trip coming from the opposite side, entering through the North Bay into Sarah. These were great trips, but we're looking for new territory.

I was wondering how much the eastern park had recovered from the '95 fire? My group is more interested in paddling in and base-camping and fishing with some day trips. I understand some of the lakes in the Saganagons area still have some old growth trees that survived the fire and some nice pictos (from reading "A Paddlers Guide to Quetico and Beyond" by Kevin Callan -2007).

So we're thinking of getting towed through Saganaga to Hook Island and then Saganagons and up into Kawnipi, or possibly going in North Bay and looping through Kahshapiwi and Agnes (or maybe just base-camping on one of them).

We're planning on 6 nights. Can anyone recommend a route?

Thank you so much,

Erik
