Be wary of singer-songwriter scams...

by (Login HowardSprague)

As a way to supplement their incomes, some of these talented cons have been taking advantage of visitors to the area. One will position himself (or sometimes 'herself', making the scam even more effective) in front of you and start playing an instrument and singing. You become entranced and entertained, maybe shedding a tear if it's a touching song. That's when the second singer-songwriter comes up behind you and takes off with your bag. Oh, your "gear is too big and bulky - especially the canoes", you say? Well, some of these swindlers actually know how to portage a canoe - so don't feel any more at ease!

....enjoy every sandwich.
