So how big is a skunk?

I've been told that owls have no sense of smell and prey on skunks. I have seen red tails eating rabbits and things they can't carry. Even road kill. Last week my daughter who lives in Pennsylvania looked out in her back yard and saw a hawk picking at a dead deer. Appearances aside we're pretty sure the hawk did not kill the deer. So Far Side comics aside would a hawk or an owl actually kill a small dog, Say the size of my fearless 10 pound Yorkie? Things you wonder about when you let them out in the middle of the night for a pee break.
