Be careful ...

by Woods Walker (Login woodswalker)

Travel slow & deliberate, pack as light as possible & make yourself eat & drink.

When I go solo, i'm my own worst enemy... travel long & hard & then end up too tired, hungry & dehydrated. This happened on my 1st 2 solo's. My last solo, I finally got it done right... I slowed down, drank lots of water & made scheduled stops for eating.

I like to solo if the fall better, because the longer summer days can be almost too long when alone.

These are things that I have noticed about myself & they may or may not apply to you.

* Travel light & double portage
* go slow & enjoy your time on the water
* plan your day, where you will be for lunch & where you will stop for the day
* drink lots of water
* bring a good book or two
* if you fish.. pinch all the hook barbs down, an accidental hook in the wrong spot could be very difficult or impossible for a solo person to deal with. No fish is worth it!
* wear your PFD

If you have never packed & paddled a solo canoe, I suggest you try things out around home before the trip

I hope you have a great trip.
