Re: Any SOLO advice?

Hi Karl,

You're getting a lot of good advice. I would stress that if you don't have a solo boat, get one. You can paddle a tandem by yourself, but unless you have really long arms it will wear you out. The Wenonah Prism is a good choice (I have one), as are the Bell Magic and Merlin II. It's also important IMO to have a light boat, no more than 50 lbs, since you'll probably be carrying another 10-15 lbs with it.

I've done a bunch of 3-4 day solo trips in northern Wisconsin and four solo BW trips (May '09, Sept '09, June '10, and part of Sept '11) and I have two more planned for this year, one of them for two weeks. My trip reports will shed some light on the experience of going it alone. You definitely want to be comfortable with your own company. That takes at least as much practice as any other aspect of canoe tripping.

Trip reports are available here:http://www.codabone.net/canoe.htm

Bon voyage!
