I've had my Steri pen about 6 years. I use it constantly.

Response to Steripen?

Last summer I used it for a group of 9 until one of the members broke it by fiddling it. Don't turn it off and on rapidly, many times. I spoke with the rep at Canoecopia a while back, wondering how many times I could count on using it. 8,000 times it can be used, then send it back to them and for about $40 they rplace the guts and you have another 8,000.
Many Peace Corps folks take the pens to third world and sanitize water for whole villages.
I use Aqua Mira as my back up. Love both products.
