Help please I just need some advice I went to riding school one day a week for just over a year and then gave up for a year while my family moved I have just brought a 15.22hh standardbred gelsing he was raced till 2001 then sold on and he has been owned by an instructor before sold as a stock horse then the people I brought him off left him in apddock got ver y fat then would strop him at full pace round paddock when felt like it. I AM GETTING his weight off him slowly and easing him back into riding but he has been very well trained at one point he will walk behind you round the paddock and you can lie on him and he wont move but what in the way of training should I be doing i have been doing figure 8's to teach him to change lead's and really want to put work into him is there exercises or certain things I should be doing to reschool him etc.... and being a standardbred he doesnt know what Woah means and if you pull him back then he gets faster!! and from speaking with breeder he has been well trained but hasnt used it so its getting him to remember and undo all the damage that past owner did by doing nothing i mean i started bending hi mand or the first few times he couldnt bend then he brought his head i nand moved really nicely and mouthed onto the bit. what should i be doing in the way or training /teaching/exercises/work he is a great little horse! he just needs work and reminders..... if you can offer me any advice please email me !!
