Okay, I am posting a question on: What would you do if you and a stranger both are in a fighting stance and about to fight. He has just pushed you, but you regain your balance after a few steps. Suddenly, he rushes in intending to punch you. You are a little faster than him, but not as strong, he is a heavy but quick hitter and better than you at grappling.
So my question is (this is a hypothetical but probable scenario): What do you think you would do if after he pushes you he tries to; punch you, grapple, kick, or even stand there and wait for you to get up? An answer to any or all the of questions are appreciated.
Any info you share is thanked and can help me or others that might end up in this situation come out on top.
Basically all that was meant to say was: What would do if an attacker that is bigger, stronger, a better grappler, and almost as fast as you comes and pushes you. Then suddenly rushes in with a punch, kick, ect. while you are trying to regain your balance. You cannot escape(at least for the moment) and he is trying to hurt you.
If I could while being pushed I would grab onto him and pull him forward and punch him at the same time. If i was already pushed and he was coming at me to hit me while I was still regaining my balance, hmmmm. I might try and dodge it, using the fact I am off balance and already in motion it would be easier for me to change directions while still regaining balance. Or I would deflect it and grab hold to help me regain my balance and precede from there. Or I would wind up getting hit and figure out what to do from there.
A kick in that situation might actually be harder to defend against. You couldn't neccesarily grab their foot or kick, if they are a strong kicker, like you could someone's punch. I would either try and jump back maintaining my balance or I would fall back and roll and jump up quickly to avoid the kick. If it was a low kick I would probably wind up getting hit and maybe knocked off balance some more.
The main concept for both situations, since I would be off balance, would be to deflect the punch or kick to do the least amount of damage. So I wouldn't continue to wind up worse off or let them get the advantage anymore.
Who knows what I'd do? As you said he may throw a punch or a kick or anything. You cannot make a plan, I'd just react. Real fights don't have time to think, just react. I'd just hope my body makes the right reaction.
with his momentum your already half way to winning the fight if he is in a full rush at you that is. A trip or throw (throw may be tricky unless he's reallu commiting to that punch) wouldn't be too hard and a medium punch may even drop him. I'd prolly use a pushing kick in his hip or gut. It gives distance from the punch to make a getaway (if he's a bigger and a good grappler you better run after). Also those catch most people by surprize due to how jarring they are. cheek block as I Ram right in with a headbutt if I was really pissed.
I'd pull out my glock and end the fight with a bullet to his head.
Nah, it's hard to say what you will do unless you are in that situation. The initial push by your assailant is an attack. If he came into that range he would be met with a punch to the face. I don't get in punching range to argue with anyone. That is within my comfort zone. If someone violates that zone then I would more than likely step back. If his arms came up for any reason and breaks that zone then it is a an assault. An assault is met by force. His arms will come up to push and fist will more than likely meet his face.
First of all no one should be close enough to you to push you. Never let anyone that close if they take a step forward to push you, you step back, if they step again you attack. eyes, groin, knee
Pretty Much anymore at my point in life I dont put my self in situations like this. I would always be aware of anyone specially a stranger that is that close to me and angry and he probably wouldnt have time to push me. But hey "****" happens right!
But since this is hypothetically speaking. Lets see!
First, I'm assuming as he shoved me back, and im trying to regain my balance and he's flying at me, I'd try to use his forward motion against him and since I understand Balance Displacement and how to use one's balance points against them, I'd would probably be able to throw him down. and Run if I could. (Possibility #1). If that didn't work and he tackled me and we hit the floor and he's a better grappler and stronger then me....I"d do my best to get into the Guard, and If I had no other choice and my life was threatened I'd pull one of my trusty sharp, metal objects (KNIFE) from my pocket and use it first as an impact tool vs. the blade if I could and find a spot like the eye, temple, SP21, Mandibular behind the ear or something to get him off of me...if that didnt work and hes commencing to kick my "ass", well if nothing else I'd shove the cold hard steel somewhere that is not life threatening but would get his attention really quick to get him off of me and try to get the hell outta there...Worse case scenerio he 'kills' me...I guess its all in how bad you want to go home.
Its really hard to say what you will do...Fishhook the mouth, eye gouge, bite, grab the nards, "give him a kiss in the mouth" (haha) something to get out of that position....or just lay there and play dead...I dont know never been in that situation...working in Corrections I've been tackled once but since the inmates wore sandles and are mostly barefoot, I managed to get him in a "toe-lock" and twisted, and put the pain to all most breaking his toe that he gave rather quickly to submission...thats the closest to this scenerio i've ever been in...
If you're already off-balance, and he rushes you, you can use a simple Judo throw with the momentum you have. Grab him by the collar and roll backwards, throwing him over your head. That might not always work though.
You can also go down to the ground on your back, rather than trying to regain balance. And as he rushes you, do what Bruce Lee did to Oharra in Enter the Dragon, kick him between the legs. That might not work either.
The next thing you have to ask yourself, is what kind of grappler is he? Just because he's stronger, and faster, doesn't make him a better grappler. JKD's grappling "will" overcome BJJ's grappling if you do it correctly. Then maybe the best thing to do is to become a mirror, and beat him at his own game. Once you have him pinned down, I'd forget grappling and start throwing mean punches to his face, and maybe an elbow to his groin.
Or you can do the most sensical thing and run away after you fall down...
"JKD's grappling "will" overcome BJJ's grappling if you do it correctly"
IMHO: BULL****!
But to your question; well I would probably try to use the momentum (maybe even make a step towards him) and stop him with a front kick to the stomach or groin (which is of course harder to hit)! Then turn and run or (if you hit really hard and he's trying to get his breath back) kick his ass...
Be prepared to sprawl or modify footwork according to grappler, better center of gravity and, if he is waiting for kicks to counter with evasive grappler footwork, modity kicks as probing tacits, to stun either hands or leg, to get past his guarding hand and lower center of gravity, same tactics as grappler but with kicks and punches to arm and leg. The main thing is to wear him down with strikes first. Then if he opens up his defense then side kick to shin groin is not protected, round kick to lead leg and probe with punches to other areas of body. Be prepared to wrestle if he rushes and can take blows to body. Try to get an advantage by footwork to attack from the side and behind to strike and choke. His defenses is the main thing to modity own techinique to penetrate, and his attack need modification of defense tactics.
To deal with grappler tuck chin, low center of gravity and arm to protect ribs. Or sprawled stance adapt as to have same advantage.
It sounds like here is where the idea of chi, or flowing energy, would come into play. If he is rushing u, like mentioned above, use is force against him. As soon as he gets close, grab his arm and/or drop backwards. He'll fall, whether u intended it or not, because his own flow will cause him to. The other day, while training, i told my two friends (one at a time) to try to wrestle me to the ground. Im 160 punds, 5'9. He's 6'2, 23o something, and the other has only a couple inches on me, but hes a tank. The point is they could even get a hold of me because i used their force against them. At one point, he grabbed me and dragged tried to drag me down...so i threw myself down. He lost his balance and fell.
Use this idea. If he pushes u and rushes u, flow with it. Just fall, not even grabbing him, and do a crouching kick at his leg or groin. Flow with the movement. Part of losing ur balance is fighting the direction ur going in.
