My opinion

Regarding the previous message touching on JKD's lack of presence in the ufc octagon, I have a few words to say.
Firstly, no man's JKD is the same as the next man's, nor is any other style of martial art in the same comparison. The qualities the individual possesses, the amount and quality of training, and attitude all determine the artists performance in the ring/octagon.
Secondly,I feel I must point out the nature of JKD,in that it is an advanced form of martial arts theory, and only in practice can we truly know how we are going to perform. Hence the importance of sparring. Drills and excersises are not enough, we must truly learn to apply technique. Combat experience is the only sure way to advance our "application" skills.
So, if Jeet Kune Do(the concept, not the name)is an advanced theory of martial arts, it would make sense that one should start with a more basic form of martial art, such as boxing and karate, and when one has trained to the limits of that form, then one should break it, break free from it. Many people(myself included) made the mistake of jumping straight into JKD, and as such accumulated alot of ideas and doctrine which in reality had no bearing for us from a combative standpoint, because we had not even any prior experience in martial arts at all, much less "form".
That may be why some JKD artists dont seem to measure up, just as other martial artists dont seem to measure to their peers(From a purely combative standpoint, mind you).
So, my point is, the correct mind, the correct attitude, and the correct method(which varies from individual to individual)is what can help us be better martial artists, as well as better human beings . If you are asking yourself what exactly that is for you, keep asking, patiently and diligently, and you will know yourself what that is in due time.

Hi everyone~ I agree with your opinion and want to say that Bruce Lee studied JKD all his life and how many real actual combat he fought? (I would say not as much as we wanted him to be) So, to ME. JKD is basically a way to live a rewarding life. doing your best in your ability and train your mind, body, and learn about yourself. Gung Fu is always about self-defense and strength your body/health.
In the late years, Bruce did say he would rather use the mind then to fight. the downside of it is he possessed so much skills that he is not going to put it to use. Instead, he to me learn the highest art of life. Not to use violence to solve problems instead put the mind to work.

the only exception to a martial artist to prove he's a good fighter is if fighting is a way for him/her to provide for his family. So, what does Bruce Lee have to prove to anyone? The only way to find how good is Bruce Lee is to say "I'm going to kill you!" and fight like a death-match~~~

Actually bruce lee got into MANY FIGHTS when he was in school. Nearly every single day. I guess that would of provided a good base for him when he started martial arts.
