Hi Sifu Lamar,

Being a 5 time certified instructor in JKD does this look like JKD or modified wing chung? I also ask this question of any JKD student/instructor. I just want to know the real. I may be training in this system soon and would like to know if it's JKD. Thanks.

Hello!

If it does not say "Jeet Kune Do" on their ad, then it probably isn't. What it looks like to me is someone who it taking a very "Jeet Kune Do like" approach to their teaching, in hopes of creating effective fighters. From what I read, it looks like a good program. Give it a shot and see what you think! Let me know how it comes out.

Thanks Sifu Lamar. It did appear to me that the bulk of the training consisted of Wing Chun but I always wanted to try out Wing Chun anyway. Perhaps I should have given the web address ( http://www.formlessdragon.net/ ) . It says that the instructor (Jason Rodriguez) is trained in JF/JKD by Big Sean Madigan. So I'll try it out when he moves his school to the new location. I got an email from him yesterday. Thanks again for your input.

Well, it looks to me like someone taking a Wing Chun approach to teaching WING CHUN!(oh, including some grappling).

I have studied Wing Chun for over 2 Years and the vast majority of the JKD I have come across on the net is IMO is just poor Wing Chun adding to Wing Chun IMO things like uneccesary high kicks.

Sifu Lamarr I have been to your website and it looks to me like you really know what you are doing and I think you look like a great teacher, I also think you would make an excellent Wing Chun Sifu

El Mastero, the class description looks good and I am familiar with Moy Yat Ving Tsun, I have never trained in it but I have heard good reports, go for it!

Hi Kaimate,

I've had my doubts about Sifu Lamar at first but after getting to know him and reading alot about JKD he appears to be an excellent teacher.

As far as the school I mentioned, it does appear that the instructor is very competent and knowledgable about different styles of Kung Fu as well as a good foundation in Ving Tsun. JKD evolved from Ving Tsun and its foundation lies in that system. Since the instructor has a good foundation in Ving Tsun he should be an excellent instructor. As far as the JKD principles he learned from Sean Madigan, I'm sure he put it to good use in his curriculum. But I guess the easiest way to judge an instructor is to watch a class and see how skilled his students are. The school won't be moving to the new location for some time so it will give me a better opportunity to read up on JKD and get a better understanding of it's principles. When the time comes to sit in during a class I can make a better assessment. Thanks for your support.
