anyone know a way for me to improve my reflexes, when i spar i seem a lil slow at respondin to some attacks ill kinda delay b4 i block, its kinda like im thinkin and not doin .
i would also like to know how to strengthen my fist .
Reflexes: Buy a pair of Kali Sticks and a couple of training knives. A few months of stick and knife fighting will have your reflex's skyrocket. Regular sparring is good, or you can isolate it, having you only defending (parrying, evading, etc.) while your opponent attacks.
Fist Strengthening: Knuckle push-ups on a hard surface. Heavy bag.
Think about it, when knife or stick fighting you don't need to worry about power, your concentrating on pure speed. Everything is going lightning fast and you have to parry these lightning fast attacks. Check out the video clips of the Dog Brothers (famous stick fighting group) sparring empty hand, they are so fast and well coordinated. Do you see how this builds reflex's now?
I'm not sure if the push-ups strengthen wrists. Hitting the heavy bag will. Plus there's other excerizes you can do.
I fully agree w/ masamune, and if you want to really see how your reflexes tend to peak after a few weeks or months training knife and stick tactics.....one thing that took me to another level one of my Guros' in Serrada Eskrima one time backed me up against a tree and pulled out this freakin razor sharp hunting knife and begin poking and slicing at me and told me to parry and evade.....after about 5 to 10 grueling and very intense minutes I noticed how much training had made a difference. Your whole outlook changes from a wooden or aluminum blade to a real razor sharp knife.....it becomes real then, even an accident or slip up in a controled event could cause serious injury.....I don't recommend doing this until you have proper training and supervision.....but it does help....
