I was wondering if any of you have any ideas of a good instructional tape on grappling for the use of street fighting. I dont want to learn a whole system just want a a good self defense type tape with out having to spend weeks to watch to actually figure out one move. I have seen a few on the the internet but as we know there are alot of tapes out there that are not worth the money spent on them. I dont want a tape for sport mma tape want a functional tape that can be for the street fight. I have some grappling exp. not much but been able to handle myself pretty well but i know there is a lot of good stuff out there i would like to know so if any one has any ideas I would like to hear from you. Thanks!

If you have not been to a grappling class it is very difficult to learn anything from a tape. tapes can sometime suppliment learning from an live instructor but the reality is that you can not truly gain anything from a tape or book without real life training. So I would recommend you go do some grappling for a while before you think of tapes. Be patient there is nothing you can learn in an hour that will serve you well forever.

Question everything, Know nothing.

I'm in agreeance to kjax.

To add:

If you aren't willing to learn a whole system first, then you are unaware of what you are discarding. Example: It is better to learn and train a spin kick and THEN discard it than it is to just discard it (if you train it then discard it, you've already benefitted from the attributes it has built up).

You know Naz, for a guy who fights like a panzy,
you sure do have alot to say dont ya. I'm sorry but the fact that you are giving advice and claiming that you teach (in previous posts) really upsets me.

I dont like to respond and start a verbal abuse between people but he does have a point as far as your sparring clip but that has already been posted on the web site before so i wont go off on that for one thing i dont know you personally and every one has a bad day at sparring sometime you dont move as good as you do other times. But as far as having to learn a system for ground fighting i think that would be great but i dont have alot of time for that I have 3 kids and a wife and work full time job im sure alot of others do to i choose to spend time with my family not that training all the time is wrong i choose not to. That is the reason i am looking for a good street grappling type tape i pickup on martial arts pretty well and i have been doing it for around 17 years i never fought in mma events have fought in tournments and done pretty well no grappling though. I have been told that i am a natural fighter and have been told by people that i have grappled with that have had exp thought that i have been trained so what i am saying is that i have good understanding of grappling but i just want to know some other things and to work them i know a live instructor would be great but not really a option so if you who have responded so far have heard of any tapes that are good let me know. THANKS

First of all, the video is about 3-4 years old.

Second, how can you call it sparring? I was clowning around.

Oh I upset you do I? Tough sh!t.

Don, says "I dont like to respond and start a verbal abuse between people but he does have a point as far as your sparring clip but..."

Moron, you just contradicted yourself. You can't say "oh I don't like to do this BUT" and then go on and do what you just said you DON'T do.

It has nothing to do with the fact that "you don't have enough time" it's to do with the fact that "you're not willing to make the time".

Some people wake up at 4am because they don't have enough time to train any other way.

Grappling for the "street" (any particular street?) is the same as grappling for the ring. The delivery systems are going to be the same. It's what you do that might differ a little (you can attack the eyes/pull hair/punch the throat, etc.)

However all that "street" stuff will be useless unless you know "how to grapple" to begin with (understanding the delivery systems of BJJ and wrestling). In other words, don't go for gimmick stuff, learn the art behind the sports and then add the foul tactics to it.

Well if you don't want to be called a moron then don't try and bash me when I'm simply trying to help.
