I just watched a video that featured Randy Williams' Chi Sao techniques. It was one of the most enjoyable and informative tapes I have seen. While some of the material seems complicated, he does a great job of emphasizing the basics (structure and the like). Furthermore, the more complicated tactics have a place in raising the level of the game so that it can become more competitive and thus have more of a positive effect for more alive application in other modalities(in my humble oppinion). While I think the material is valuable in and of itself, how well suited is Williams's wing chun in supplementle training for JKD? Both Jeff Imada and Ted Wong were present in the program, so I would assume that there is a good amount of overlap, but any insights would be appreciated.
my linage in wing chun comes from Jason Lau and Augustine Fong, my jkd linage from Dan Inosantos and Ted Wong. in a recent seminar I asked sifu Ted Wong about his experience with Rany Williams, since Randy was a Augustine Fong student, an he commented "Randy is a very good and dedicated wing chun teacher and jkd student of mine. in an article I read about Randy published in a MA magazine in united Kingdom. he mentioned that... for many years he came across Ted wong and asked him to acept him as his student but Ted refused. untill at a marial art event he had some one who new both of them help him convince him by putting in his good word and recomending him as a student. Randy now trains and invites Ted Wong to hold seminars on JKd at his school.
as far as the videos. I seen them and although his explination on the theories and concepts are good, at times in the advanced techniques he get a little to fancy or complicated. so just use what is useful...simple and direct.
