It was "Tai Chi" not "Tae Kwon Do"

Hello,

According to the film this happened at the first "U.S. Tai Chi tournament" held in 1988. Also the opponent was the "overall champion" of the tournament. I can't say for certain if he was actually using Tai Chi (I don't enough about Tai Chi fighting). Anyway, interesting clip.

Regards,

John M. Drake

I know who this guy is

It's B.K. Frantciz (spelling's wrong). He went around China learning from internal martial artists for around 20 years or so. He teachs Bagua, Tai Chi, and Hsing I in seminars now all over the world. If you ask me, he's not very great, cause it's not that hard to mess with a Tae Kwon Do practitioner, especially one like that. Now had he taken on a Muay Thai guy and done well, maybe that would open some people's eyes up. But we all know that no stand-up system is better than Muay Thai, so people would probably claim the guys was a sucky practitioner, as Muay Thai is infallible.

One excellent 3rd generation JKD instructor, coming up.

Seen this before, actually I remember trawling through his website. Although I would not say he was rubbish as far as his internal arts knowledge I could not see anything that made him stand out as exceptional. What really put me off was when he started calling some of his masters "Sages". Usually this is a red flag for bullsh1tter; its like when you go to a hotel that is called TOP HOTEL or a resturant that says it serves quality food.

It is Bagua Vs Tai Chi, but the guy he was fighting ran at him like an idiot.

Actually one of this guys students teaches near me. My mate went along for a while, indeed he was suckered into believing all the tripe and tried to convince me, recently he told me he had stopped as it was balls.

Question everything, Know nothing.

bagua vs tae kwon do

Good tactics as running like an idiot "well I think most people would come a cropper" Some real footwork and timing, and yes Bagua or any other style that uses these tactics "wake up" no ground work only surprise. Real thai boxing yes but ring stuff hmmm?
