I'm not entirely sure I understand what you mean.

I mean, if you are relaxed after a few rounds on the heavy bag then you aren't training hard enough. You should be training hard so that you are worn out and tired.

But if you are talking about tension in the body, then you have to train slowly and if you stuff up not fret over it. Just take it easy and just let everything go. You will soon get it.

"Relaxion refers to the degree of tension in the musculature. The rule in sports is to try to have no more tension than is necessary to perform the act, and to have as low a degreeof tension in the antagonistic muscles as possible and still maintainany necessary inhibitory control. Muscles are always in a slight state of tension and this is how they should be. But when they begin to "tighten up" too much, we find our speed and skill being handicapped. The main difficulty in such cases lies in the over tension of the antagonistic muscles. A low degree of tension in the acting muscles means less energy usage. Tense antagonistic muscles waste energy and cause stiffness and/or resistance to the movement. In coordinated, graceful and efficient movement, the opposing muscles must be able to relax and lenghten readily and easily."

I guess as Lee's greatest fan you have read the "Tao of JKD" but only if it has been a while and you forgot the book lying in a dark, dark dusty cellar I'd like to mention that you should have a look in it!

Greetings
Jo

Learning to remain Relaxation

May 6 2004, 10:47 AM

Hi mind

Heres one of the keys that I find helps me when learning to be relaxed. Breathing is one of those keys try to stand in a posture that not using alot of muscle or tensenes try to remain as relaxed as possible. Although working out on a heavy bag is great for cardio and a great stress releiver the heavy bag causes you to tense because your tryng to usually work frm a stance and throw boxing type attacks. When in reality those types of movements and attacks "COULD" work when the time is right but its more adaptable to train from natural positions you may find yourself in. Try standing and work from a posture that less noticed or telegraphic i guess. My suggestion is just to breathe and move without thought and use techniques thatare simple and direct but without too much structure. this is not JKD but this is training from a perspective that would be more less adaptable in a real situation.

If you have the oppotunity try tai chi, pak kua or Hsing I hell even yoga. Good instructors in these will help you understand what real relaxation is.

Question everything, Know nothing.

face going red blood pressure rising a familair tale of not listening to own intuition. Adjust training accomplish specific goals and tasks. Any injuries, pain, needs specific approach, relaxation comes from listening to own intuition and applying other tactics. Seek others perspective of form, bodymechanics, training partners and adjust accordingly. Results of training recorded and having a plan to retify any problems. Trainers help, most of all learn all that is needed to make a training session, do it job.

First to relax in training. Would be to not allways try so hard. Just do the move. All actions of the body come together during the movement. To over do it,makes each set of movement act seperate. Then relaxed action can have sensitivity. As you will feel more of the opposing pressure. But each have there ways of doing.
