A student of mine for the first time in a long time asked me to show him how to free style, now when I'm alone most of the time I can get my moves to come togeather pretty good. But when he asked me to for the life of me it came out all blocky. As I know karate and TKD dont really have the flow im looking for any of your JKD, and Kung Fu guys and gals have any advice on how to get my flow back?

You know this question was asked of my ex training partner by some visiting muay thai guys from france. The question however belies the great misconception of freetstyle training. We are not training in freestyle, we are training to become free of style. Most of us are still mix style.
I would if i may, hazard a guess and say the reason why your moves came out blocky was because you were trying to do something that was not natural to you. in effect trying to immitate what you believed to be freestyle.
Freestyle is merely a flashy word used to sell the teacher. You can not show people freestyle it just is. Thus if your student wants to see freestyle spar with him/her. When you see the gap to punch let fly, or a gap to kick let fly etc etc.
freestyle is not a style you can imitate it is something you become through diligent training.
Question everything, Know nothing.
