I know i don't come on here often, but after seeing this thread i can see why i got p***ed off at this forum, you're all older than me, yet you all act as if you were at infant school. who cares about anything any of you have said, you're just indulging your insecurities.
and another thing, how is it helping you to get on in life by insulting each other, and why does everyone have to retaliate? letting things go is an important lesson to learn, and will help you all learn the art of self control, and maybe even quazi-enlightenment, if you're lucky!

The best way is not so much working out alone, but diet and working out! If you continue working out, and cut all simple sugars from your diet, you will lose fat while maintaining muscle. Concentrate on protein and complex carbohydrates. Drink water mostly, with an occasional diet soda or tea sweetened with Equal or Slenda. Cut bread, rice and pasta from your diet. Those things basically convert to sugar once they are in your system. Eat mostly lean meats (chicken, turkey, fish, steak, pork), oatmeal (plain sweetened to taste with Equal or Splenda) complex carbohydrates (green beans, sweet potato, squash, broccoli) and fruits (strawberries, peaches, pears, etc.). It also helps to maintain a good nutritional supplement regimen. Here is an example of a good meal following this plan:
2 grilled chicken breasts
1 large serving of green beans
1 large serving of steamed squash
1 cup chopped strawberries sweetened with Equal or Splenda
Water, diet soda or unsweetened tea to drink
Of course no fried food or high fat content food either! Following this diet (allowing one cheat meal, one day per week) I lost 27 pounds in five weeks! I feel better and look much better also! Once you eliminate the sugar from your diet, your energy levels out and you feel good all the time! No energy roller coaster rides like when you are always taking in sugar! Give this a try and see what you think!
Ok, if you want to lose fat, do light aerobic exercise on day, and interval training the next day (interval training is, for example, sprinting for 10 seconds, then jogging for a minute, but don't go overboard with this, don't ever push yourself too much so your muscles ache).
combine this with a light weight, weight lifting program, and go on a juice fast for up to a month.
remember, light exercise, you will not be getting much protein while on this, so do not damage your muscles much.
a juice fast is drinking juice or smoothies instead of a meal a day, typically drink 1 or 2 cups of juice per normal meal time. it has to be made with natural vegetables and fruits, and blended yourself at home. no artificial juices.
look up information on juice fasting on the internet.
it gets rid of all the toxins from your body, the average adult has 5 kilograms (10 pounds) of toxins on their body, mixed in with their fat and muscle.
toxins are things you absorb from the environment, along with the foods you eat. the toxins are mostly broken down, but not all of them are broken down before they enter your digestive tract.
this will make you feel better and look slimmer, and lose all the fat you want, though have a 3 or 4 day period where you gradually eat less and drink more juice, going straight on to the juice can be a shock.
i hope this helps,

Jowan, starving yourself isn't going to help you lose bodyfat. In fact, your body RETAINS bodyfat when you starve yourself, because it thinks it's going to die. Also, your body will start burning off muscle if you don't eat correctly. You need to have a balanced diet so you don't lose muscle and you still burn fat.
No, fasting (juice preferably, or water) makes you lose tons of weight, and even if not, you will lose 5-10 pounds of toxins in your body, and will feel much healthier.
look it up anywhere, just tryin to help!!

What about the Atkins diet. Consuming 80% - 90% protien would keep your muscle and your body would use it's own body fat as the main energy source, instead of carbs.
the atkins diet:
does not consume fat as an energy source, to my knowladge, the only reason it works is because calorie-wise, it takes less protein to feel full up than fat, infact fat and sugars make you feel like eating more.
-Jowan
Actually, eating fat enriched foods, protein and only consuming 20% of vegetables/fruits/Nuts, is what the Atkins diet is all about. When you consume this much protein, your body uses it's own fat stores, instead of using carbs and sugars as energy. And of course, the reason why your body doesn’t use carbs as energy, is because you’re not using carbs to fuel the fire, so your body looks to it’s alternatives, body fat. I like this diet, it reminds me of the way our ancestors ate, humans survived with out bread, pasta, cakes, cookies and Pepsi. Studies have shown that about 100 yrs ago, the western world ate 50%-60% LESS carbs and they were healthier and in shape, now were the fattest country in the world.
I'm reviewing the book again, don't make me bust out quotes to prove my point. Ha!
If you don't believe me, we can test the theory. You eat nothing but carbs, eat lots of Pasta and Bread and indulge in junk food... don't stop your martial arts training and keep using your exercise routine. I'll do a high protein diet and cut the carbs, and continue to work out. In 2 months, we will see what happens, I'll bet that I lose body fat and gain muscle; you will gain body fat and start to lose muscle.
i agree!
you'll gain muscle, but the loss of body fat will be down to less calorie intake.
studies have shown that atkins dieters eat less calories, so fat and muscle are both burned, but as you are eating protein exclusively (with a bit of fat), you gain muscle.

im no expert, please enlighten me!
Ok first off losing weight is mostly about diet, not exercise. Stick with the food pyramid and you only have to do 20min 3 days / week to maintain an adequate BMI.
On the Atkin's diet.
DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT ever go on the Atkin's diet. The Atkin's diet does horrible things to your body. It puts you into a constant state of kitosis, kills brain cells, and actually will cause you to gain weight in the long term unless you stick with it FOREVER. Also after six months on the Atkin's diet it is near impossible to lose any more weight as your body starts to fight back against you starving it of carbs. If you follow a basic low fat diet you will not get the same results as Atkins in that first six month period, but you will be at an almost identical stage after a year, which implies that for continued weight loss stick with the basic low fat diet and do some light cardio
I have never been fat, i've always been lean even when I was not in to fitness. I know lots of people who are fat or were fat. My simple observation is eat less exercise more. Do not think about diet so much, just eat healthily. Lead an active life.
People get way to excited about this diet and that diet. The reality is you can eat what you want as long as you train hard. I am always hungary not because I do not have food but becuase I train a lot, still as lean as anyone.
People who start on the diet programs get into a mental war, if they don't meet their targets they get depressed loose interest and get fat again, this is why so many people are yoyo dieters.
Simply train hard and the weight will naturally come off.
