That reminded me of when I sat and ate an entire meal with my Burger King hat on, with my girlfriend. People stared and stared, I just laughed and ate my grease burger.

Well if you wanted to get involved with NHB fights, you would have to realize that the boxing and BJJ would work, but you would have to water down any JKD techniques that you know. This is simply because in JKD, your weapons include the eye jab, groin, throat, and knee kicks, etc. Plus biting, and any other weapon you would use most people would consider deadly or illegal. JKD was created to really find the most easiest way to maim someone. There are so many rules in NHB that you would probably end up using more of the boxing and BJJ. If you really want to go hard core, take up and combine your arsenal with Muy Thai kickboxing. That is a monster workout from hell as far as the conditioning goes! You spend the whole time kicking bamboo trees with your shins and lay on your back and have little Thai masters sit up in trees 30 ft. high off the ground and toss coconuts onto your stomach. LOOOOOOL!!!!

If you are serious about wanting to get into MMA or NHB tournaments, I would strongly suggest finding a coach or trainer in that field. You have to get in incredible shape cause you will be fighting some of the most well conditioned fighters in the world that know the stand up game and have the ground work too.

If you take BJJ then you probably already know from your teacher about competitions and NHB. I am being trained now from someone that used to be taught by Rickson Gracie and i always find out how to get into the newest NHB. As for JKD, i think thats more for the street but it can be used into competitions but not to the greatest power.

mate it is nice that you are asking people questions, but i recommend you ask better ones. I am not trying to insult you, but to ask people on a JKD forum if they thought JKD was good, is a bit silly. Its like going up to President Bush and asking him if it is great to be an American. It will be a highly biased answer.

A more sensible approach would be to ask about the JKD appraoch to MA, or go to a NHB site and ask them of their opinion of JKD.

As to whether it is good to enter a NHB contest, yes I think it is good so long as you are ready. There really is no point if you are lacking in technique. You say that you have done BJJ and boxing, I suggest you also learn how to kick, knee and elbow. There are two entire ranges you have missing. Going to compitions is helpful to find weaknesses you can not see yourself, but you should at least cover the major ranges before you look to plug smaller holes in your technique. This is of course just my opinion on the matter.

You will know when you are ready to enter an NHB fight because you wont have to ask anyone if it is a good idea.

Question everything, Know nothing.
