I have trained in martial atrs from the age of 8. I Have competed in judo, tukido, korean kempo and boxing(not a martial art). I've read various documents from the net on JKD and have found that i feel that JKD is for me .No instructors in Scotland (that i have found)train in JKD. The question that i would like to ask is what is the best way to train with no instructor. Keeping in mind that i would love to train completly in JKD ie mentally, physically and spiritually.

regards geo

If you want to really learn, find a gym and join and secondly, stay AWAY from this forum! This place is nothing but garbage.

Training without an instructor is increasingly common. If fact, that is how I got my start in jkd. There are no movements to learn, no tokens to memorize, no methods to study, and nothing for an instructor to teach. That being said, one might ask what I have done with my students. Basically, all I do is help them to forget what they have learned in their other styles. All we do is sparring and physical training. Just remember, it's all about daily decrease.

Lone Training

I think the best way to train alone involves investin in some equipment. Focus Mitts to help improve speed of punches; have someone to some drills like pulling their hand away when punch to make it harder.
A light shield to practice the power of punching. Kicking pads and/or a heavy shield for hard kicking like side kicks.
I think to train alone, having friends willing to help can be a huge benefit. Even if they dont know anything, tell them to keep and open mouth; tell them what ur trying to do and have them make comments, be critical. A simple "Hey, that was good" will let u know ur doing something right and to keep it up.
