how many of you jkders train kicking to the face? people often say high kicking is useless, but a thai kick to the head or even a lead round kick can end a fight. i kick to the face with no problems. however, i set up the kicks with punches or fakes. i'm also 6 feet 2 inches tall, capable of doing jumping splits, and have very quick and powerful kicks.
I think kicking to the face or high kicks is optional.. I believe those that say its not a good trait or a good thing to try to pull off just can't kick that high. However, I do know that you are off balance and are easily accesible to takedowns and sweeps as well as being bum rushed etc.. So you learn to pick and choose them wisely. I think that they can be effective in certain situations depending on the fighting ability of your agressor. Shameless story I once when I was 16 or 17 somewhere around there, was pretty active in my TKD days did fend off two punks country boys that could not fight for **** only using my tkd kicks, kicking the living crap out of both of them and not one time did they land any type of attack on me.. be it as it may they were not great fighters, and probably had never confronted someone with great kicking skills as my self, and or I could of just had luck on my side.. but nonetheless it did work so to say its something to never pull off is pretty broad statement. It just depends on the moment. Again the best face kicking or head kicking is the one where you bring thier face to the ground and you kick the dirt out of them without having to go to high up.
I think also that chuck lidell also proved kicking to the head is possible even against a grappler like Tito Ortiz
Just my .25 worth
