Hello!
I find myself very eager to start JKD again, but I have a few quiestions on energy, or lack of it.
Does anyone rate red bull-type drinks(as opposed to fruit juice)?
Does drinking lots of water 'energise' you?
Running: once you have been running for a few weeks, do you have more energy than before?
Also, I have a job with crazy hours! I start at 9PM, and get home around 2.45AM, often unable to sleep until about 4AM!
This means that I wake up around 1PM, and am devoid of energy for the remaining day, and still feel the effects into later days.
How would you go about getting around this?
I am currently looking into this myself, but it seems that nowdays I hardly have the time sit down and relax for a minute! Any replies would be greatly beneficial.
Many things will contribute to your either gain or loss of energy. I think one big one is "rest" if your on a crazy schedule and your body is not getting enough rest then yes that I believe can play a role. But if you can fit in 15 to 30 mins of excersise each and every day along w/ a good diet your energy level can spike. But if your eating lots of sugar foods, and coffee and such late at night your gonna find your body is going to shut down eventually. That Red bull stuff I cann't comment on because I never drink that garbage. If you want to replinish the things to consider are Gatorade, power ade, type sport drinks. Green Teas sometime help. LOTS OF WATER and take vitamins every day.
Im no doctor or physician so I can only tell you what I do and what works for me. good luck
If you are going to sleep at 4:00 A.M. and not getting up until 1:00 P.M., you problem could be that you are getting too much sleep! If you are, then this, over a period of time, could have slowed your metabolism down to a level where you feel "energy zapped" all the time! Try getting between six and seven hours of sleep instead of nine, and see what that does for you after a period of time. I think you will be pleased with the results! Proper nutritional supplementation, a steady workout/training routine, good diet and six to seven hours of sleep a night can go a LONG WAY toward keeping you supercharged and ready to go at all times!
I work as Head of Security for a nightclub. I usually go in at 11:00 P.M. and sometimes don't get off until 4:00 A.M. or later! Yesterday morning it was around 4:00 A.M. when I got home, and I was up at 8:00 A.M. preparing to pick someone up at the airport who was here to train all day with me. His flight left at 7:30 last night. I had to be at work early last night, and got to the club at around 9:00. I got off work at about 4:30 A.M. (busy night)! This morning it was nearly 5:00 when I got home, and right at 5:30 when I got to bed. Yet, here I am, up and reading and posting on this forum at 10:45 A.M.! At 1:00 P.M. today, I will start teaching a seminar that lasts until 5:00 P.M., then I have a date this evening and will be back at the club at 11:00 ready to go again! Saturday night is my busiest night, and I will get off around 4:30 tomorrow morning. Tomorrow is my forty-seventh birthday. I have lunch scheduled with my parents in another city, then dinner and a movie scheduled with my daughter tomorrow evening! In between those appontments I have to go to the nutritional store and stock up on supplements and do some "nutrition conscious" grocery shopping. After all of that, I MIGHT finally get to slow down and get a bit of rest! Then the "regular grind" starts again Monday morning, when I will begin a new workout/nutritional supplement/training/diet schedule in preparation for some HUGE photo shoots that I have coming up for magazine articles and my upcoming book and video series release!
I find that the more I go (especially at my age), the better I feel and the more I can keep going! If I slow down, so does my metabolism, and I don't feel nearly as good as I do when I am real busy! Right now I am a "ball of energy", chomping at the bit to get started with this seminar at 1:00 today! Energy drinks are good, but most of them contain quite a bit of sugar, so be sure if you are drinking them, limit it to one a day and drink it right when you first get up! I start every day with a 16 oz. Sobe "NO FEAR" energy drink, and that is the ONLY simple sugar/simple carbohydrate that I will consume all day!
Give some of this advice a shot and see what it does for you! I think you will find yourself pleasantly surprised! Good luck!
My advice is don't bother with the red bull. I used to drink it when I was working nights. It's loaded with caffeine and by and large no good for your body at all.
The symptoms you have are as a result of your working time. My advice is to get into a routine, a different one of course that you're used to because you are now working when you should be sleeping. Set your alarm clock for an eight hour kip, no more. Do as you'd do on a normal day i.e. get up, get some cereal or whatever. Working into the night you have to accept that you are to sleep into the day, keep to that routine. The biggest problem I had when working nights were the weekends. Obviously wanting to spend Saturday and Sunday doing stuff asked that my structure be changed, I found this is when the body is particularly susceptible and vulnerable. Keep changing that structure and the body becomes weaker. I used to fall ill easier, and often found a simple cold difficult to get rid of.
....yeah, I kinda figured as much!
I've given up coffee, smoking (of various kinds!), alchohol,(except for a little on some weekends!),and most sugary crap, yet because I feel so drained before work, I drink Red Bull! Go figure!
I recently went through a period of making juice from fresh fruit ad veg, but it kind of taxes the old wages, you know?
My diet has always been very poor, although I have been trying to rectify that recently. I definately agree with what was said in the posts, especially what sifu Lamar said about keeping busy:
When I was in a less consuming job, I was working out, going to college, going out once a week with my friends and persuing my music with a lot of passion, and I had all the more energy for it!
I think that I will structure my time a lot more.
Thanks again for your replies,
a more determined Jake Pepworth
ok instead of being a hopped up little caffeine feind try giving your body the right foods it need to fuel you right, eat alot of complex carbohydrates like veggies, fruits, oats, beans. Sugar causes your performance to decrease and you will not have that energy for very long, with carbs you will have a more full sensation and your energy will last longer.
Never rely on energy drinks theyre a waste of money and time.
