Example you go for a pak sao in the middle of the pak they throw a cross. Just wondering some thoughts on your defense in that situation or other situations. For me in the pak trap i will tan, or might do a inside parry hit against a straight cross. Against a hook i will disengauge with punching hand and jamb into the bicep to stop the punch. Just like some others i have others as well but just like to hear yours.

You focus too much on the finger. Use your feet to move.

Yes you could move but if you have other options to continue to use the pressure you have on this guy why would want to lose that shot. when you are in tight and you dont see that pucnh coming until it is half way there it would be tough to stop and back off or you could possibly shift your body or slip the punch.

Moving your feet does not mean moving back or releasing the pressure. You can maintain the same distance if you wish, but attack from a different angle, by using your feet. Simple example is diagonal step forward.

I understand the angles and yes you are right with angle to escape from a punch. But if you are in tight already and let say you are already checking a knee wouldnt be hard to anlge? I am saying your wrong just curios how if you are in tight you are going to angle off? Then on ther hand it would proably be hard for them to a good punch you are in tight but not imposible.

I am sure most know in a real attack one should never plan consciously to try using a favorite thing that you learned. And any piece of a technical discussion is
usually describing "snap shot" of action. In regard to being "in tight" I find good exercise is blindfolded. My hand in contact with opponent hand, both grabbing,
reacting, striking, blocking.. I can sense and detect and react to opponent every movement. Because "in tight" action is most rapid, I maintain a slight forward
pressure directly toward the center line of opponent.. and then (if opponent is center) I may strike in a straight line immediately upon sensing loss of hand contact,
to hit opponent first. If I am in the center, the opponent must travel a curved line to disengage "In tight" it not take long to judge opponent force and tell if
opponent is weak, strong, centered, off centered, etc.
Regards,
Zhi

If I am in a tight corner, where I do not have enought space for foot work, I will use my elbows and knees and closer still standing and ground grappling skills.

To be honest I did not know the exact meaning of the technique you where talking about, but assumed it was a parry or strike, which to me is enough distance to move.

My footwork in close proximity is not designed for me to get far away from my opponent, but to help me shift my body angle to a more preferable position. Note this also means that my upper body is moving to exaggerate any movement my feet make.

At the moment I am really focusing on posistioning and the more I do so the more I realise how effective it is. Most of my opponents go backwards and forwards when they attack or defend. You watch your mates spar next time. It is very rare to see people use space appropriately. Watch soccer or basket ball maybe and you will see guys wrong foot their opponent and end up behind them or their side etc. If I can get to my opponents side or back I become much more dangerous.
