Hello!
I've only started running a couple of weeks ago, about twice a week. I just got hold of some ankle/wrist weights, and thought it would be a good idea to wear them when I run.
Is this counter-productive in any way?
All I can say is is KILLS! my legs were dead weight by the end of my run, but I have to say, I wasn't as out of breath as I have been.
Also, is it benificial to wear them in between training, i.e around the house, when you go out etc?
Cheers, Jake P
Hi, just reading your post here. I tend to agree that the usage of ankle weights while training or running is very detramental to your health. It can cause temporary to permanant injury to joints, tendens(sp), and muscles. I have been running for a long time now and to be honest many people see running period, as the same issue. As for now I have not experienced it and I run on average 5 miles 2 times a week and 2 miles every day. So if its true that running can cause these injuries over time. I would not want to cause it any faster by weighting my joints down.
If your wanting to wear ankle weights im certain they will strenghten your legs while doing calestenic excersises, stretches, and simple aerobic type of excersises. Possibly even riding a bike. But that would be the extent of when I'd wear them if even at all. Personally I don't see them as that helpful if you just run on a normal consistant basis on a tred mill where you have soft cushion and flexibility so no damage is done on the joints you'll see progress and you'll find yourself seeing the results in due time.
