I have a habbit. When people are messing around and they look like they might throw a punch i still either flinch back or try to parry it. I'm always donig it and i know sparring would help but i cant find anyone to sparr with me. Ussually i will block it when they try to throw one but if they flinch and look like they will i still try to.

Think HIT!!!!

September 28 2004, 2:08 AM

Hello Tyler!

Try this. Instead of thinking about blocking or parrying, think primarily of hitting. A good strike to use is the leading straight punch to the nose. Everytime an opponent fakes, feints or tries to hit you, just punch them right square in the old snot box! This works ESPECIALLY well against fakes and feints, as the target is usually left wide open! Then if they really attempt a strike, since you are already thinking hit, your reaction speed might be quicker and you might hit them before their strike can land. This is where lin sil die dar (simultaneous defense and attack) comes into play. This is Bruce Lee's Fistic Law, the same answer to every question! Their attack is a question. Your answer: Leading straight punch to the nose! This GREATLY simplifies things! Bottom line: Always think HIT!!!!

Keep Blasting!

slip, snap-back, crazy monkey, footwork combined with punching, beat the opponent to the punch...all good alternatives to blocking/parrying
or merely overwhelm the opponent with offense, which is my personal preference/style
