I would like to re-introduce myself some of you may remember me but I have been off and on posting for some time.. i made some friends had some arguments..
I train in Wing Chun, Chin na, tai chi, been training well over a decade also spent about 5yrs studying karate in the form of goju ryu, kicking boxing....
all the yrs i trained the one thing that is absolutely true, the more you train the better you will be.. alot of people talk alot of crap and compare apples with oranges...
If u must fight u will be fighting a living breathing creature, matter of fact the most deadly creature...
to be a better fighter
u must first sincerly train, (that actually means to train as if you life depends on it, because it does)
second if u take your time and learn how to control your fear and learn how to stay calm in a fight u will be calm..
(People believe that u should just put on gloves and start punching and kicking, okay this will help you get over the fear of being punched or kicked, however it will not teach you how to stay relaxed and calm..
u will respond how you train.. (In regards to Wing Chun specifically there are alot of skills to learn, (IT WILL take atleast 5yrs on average to get a handle on the concepts and applications, it prop will take another 5yrs to aquire the sensitivey to actually pull off some of the techniques.. oh ya thats about 10yrs of training..
styles are not the enemy people are..
this is a saying i like.
IF you are going to attack my u must actually attack me..
when comes down too it style is nothing more then personal interpretation....
YOU must become yourself all styles are just tools to increase your skill.
HOW CAN YOU FREE yourself of your ignorance if u live in ignorance?
Inorder to free yourself u need something to be free from.(without this important step)u are nothing more then a street thug who in all honesty wouldnt stand a chance against any real martial artist in a REAL situation
we train to fight, we train to defend ourselves , not to put on a show for someone to watch and especially not to mix ego's.
some techniques are really deadly and dirty... Each person knows his or her ability..
AS far as some of you saying that the best way to train is this or that, its absolute bull crap.. Each person is different , each person is able to do different things a good Martial instructor will find his or her students weaknesses and build them up and re-inforce thier strenghs
Its interesting it seems the people who were bullies when they were kids tend to be the same ones who say u need get in the ring or on the mat and mix it up.. "YOU know outside of the small sect of people who are aggresive and rather obnoxious, most people are peace loving types, who just want to defend themselves..
There is no honor in competition because its a pride, ego, money issue, Real martial arts is about respect, honor, humility...
Yes a person in the ring can generally handle himself in a real fight, but its silly to think a person who does not compete isnt a competent fighter..
all the fighters u see in competions are not the elite of martial arts they just chose to whore themselves out to the highest payer or just seek fame again to probably better their coffers.....
I train , I will continue to train, its what i do , its apart of who I am
and one last thing,, GUNS WIN
so in REAL life you should only fight if no other option is given too you, or u may end up dead.
peace and god bless I hope all of you have a wonderful holiday season..ITs good to see this forum up and running well i commend the peeps in charge I have visited other forums some of which are no longer around.. its good to see that this forum is still stirring conversation.
"There is no honor in competition because its a pride, ego, money issue, Real martial arts is about respect, honor, humility"
There's honor in competition, honor of your art, family, and your life. Also some people just love to fight or test their skills to the highest they can. And others need money to help their familys out in the only way they know how, to train and fight....or they could just need money to support themselves. Of course some fight because they have a ego, but who doesn't have a ego? And im sure that's not the only reason they fight.
"all the fighters u see in competions are not the elite of martial arts they just chose to whore themselves out to the highest payer or just seek fame again to probably better their coffers....."
Why do you like to sterotype people who fight in the cage/ring, do you know any of them?
"Its interesting it seems the people who were bullies when they were kids tend to be the same ones who say u need get in the ring or on the mat and mix it up.. What you just said was ignorant. You're saying that people that get in the ring are bullies. I know alot of pro and Amateur fighters, and most of them are very nice people, and very humble. Alot of them got in Martial Arts the same way you did. Some did because they love it, because they were BULLIED, and for many other reasons.
Most people are not peace loving types either, they just say they are because they are afraid of violence, there is a difference. Even the nicest people love to see a good fight, until it happens to them.
You talk sh1t deathrobe. I had a ring fight last week, I do not bully anyone. I did not do it for ego, but to test my ability against serious martial artists. I lost that fight yet I have one street fights. Even with rules this guy was more dangerous to me than the guys on the street.
When I stepped up in front of my opponent I looked into his eyes and I knew we both had respect for each other. When I chatted to him afterwards, we were like buddies after a good sparring match, which is what it was. How dare you suggest it was ego. Do you know how much guts it takes to put yourself up for this, you a*s*shole.
What the hell do you know of martial honour. You call yourself Deathrobe and you have the gall to call people you have never met egotistical.
I have had the debate about the length of which training takes to get good. I thought point was wrong then and I still think you are wrong. If it takes 5 years to start being able to use your technique, then it is bullsh1t.
KISS. simple means simple to APPLY not simple simple in LOOKS. If something is simple to apply it is simple to learn, which means you can learn it pretty quick. This does not mean you can not improve on it, but it does mean that you can be street effective within a year or less, depending on your talent.
To compete it takes longer because you have to hone the elements of your techniques to be sharp, powerful and faster than your opponents.
The best fighters in the world DO compete. Not just in competitions. Hell Bruce Lee competed by taking and making challenges. He coached others to compete. How can you be any good if you have never had a fight against someone who was any good? I got shown a weakness in my ground game last week, but that is not going to happen again, why because now I know it is a weakness so I can plug it.
You see people like you like to live in a fantasy world, where they can beat up street punks and think they know about fighting. I beat up people before I did martial arts, it did not make me a good fighter. You keep deluding yourself and maybe in fifty years you might get struck by lightening and become an enlightened fighter.
In the mean time why not show the rest of us how pathetic these NHB guys are and step up? Reality is you are all talk. Don't bother giving me no crap about rules, you can still punch and kick, or have you not been taught that yet? Does that come in year 60 of your training? Maybe you learn ground techniques when you are 200?
I feel in a whole people tend to be hostile. I wasnt attacking a person , more like a personality..I actually know alot of ring fighters who are very nice...Perhapes there amatures in the sense that thier not big ticket fighters...However fighters non the less...
And yes when people compete it brings out the worst in people, Example would be the DADS that get into fights over little league practice..
As far as talking poop ,I just call it how it is.. I wasnt calling you a bully i was merely stating that people who get there jollies off of fighting other people tend to have been fighting there whole life..even when they were younger..I know alot of people who as they grew up realized they were bullies, and regret being that way.. And yes to a degree I attack the sport of martial arts because I feel that its so much more then entertainment for someone else..but thats my personal opion
A bully takes alot of different forms,
Jake, you obviously have a different view on life then i do...U miss my point

When you say that competition is about ego, pride and money you infer that the people who compete do it for those reasons. Why? because the competition does not exist without the competitors. Therefore you insult every competitor when you generalise. And no, competition did not bring out the worst in me, in fact I made a lot of friends. I learned a lot about myself.
You talk of freedom and needing to know the opposite in order to really understand. Utter nonsense. I know that if I put my hand in conc hydrochloric acid, it will burn off. I do not need to experience this to know it is true. You can say it is an instinct. I have never been to jail, yet I do not want to go there.
This can be applied to the nonsense martial arts out there. Where they spend years doing patterns and forms, in the hope that one day they shall undertsnad the secrets of the shaolin. Why spend years or even hours learning something that you will discard anyway? Why not just go straight to the heart of the matter? Why spend years worrying about the position of your elbow or whether your fist should be vertical? Why not just punch?
No one is free from ignorance, thus everyone lives in ignorance. It is only when we recognise that we are ignorant that we start to see the truth.
Anyway, sorry if I sounded real hostile, (I suppose I meant to). I tolerate ignorance, but not insults which is what it was, even if it was not meant to be.
