Hello!
The Five Corner Drill, also known as the Five Way Kicking Drill, involves five kicks with the right leg, then five with the left leg. Imagine you are standing in the center of a large clock, facing 12:00. Your feet are squared and your hands are positioned directly in front of the pectoral muscles. First, with your right leg, fire a straight kick at 12:00, then an a hook kick at 1:30, then a side kick at 3:00, then an angular back/side kick at 4:30, and finally a direct back kick at 6:00. The foot just taps the floor briefly between the kicks. Then with the left leg, first a straight kick to 12:00, then a hook kick to 10:30, then a side kick to 9:00, then an angular back/side kick to 7:30, and finally a direct back kick to 6:00. That finishes one cycle. Repeat this several times for a great leg workout and to develop swift kicks in all directions.
There is also a Three Corner Drill, also known as the Three Way Kicking Drill. This involves three kicks with the right leg and then three kicks with the left leg. Once again, imagine you are standing in the center of a large clock, facing 12:00. Your feet are squared and your hands are positioned directly in front of the pectoral muscles. With the right leg, fire a straight kick to 12:00, a side kick to 3:00, and finally a back kick to 6:00. With the left leg, fire a straight kick to 12:00, a side kick to 9:00, and finally a back kick to 6:00. Once again, just tap the floor briefly with the foot between kicks. A little less involved than the Five Way Drill, but still a great workout. Most people start with the Three Way Drill and train it until they are very proficient with it, then progress to the Five Way Drill!
I hope this adequately explains these drills, and I hope this post is helpful to you!
