If the master is with us and still living, what would he say about the new martial arts of today. What do you think would he criticise K1, UFC, and Shootfighting. Of course all this won't happen if JKD wouldnt be created. It was his baby and it evolved into the three MMA arts of today.

Dude, what the hell are you talking about? Bruce Lee had nothing to do with setting up any of these competitions. The brazilians have been doing NHB fighting for well over sixty years (thats before Lee was born).

No holds barred competitions have existed in asia for thousands of years, in their various forms, whether popular or not.

I give a lot of credit to Bruce Lee, but he did not invent martial arts, he did not even invent freestyle martial arts (no one can invent that). It has been discovered independently countless times. Hell you only have to read the Book of Five rings by Mushashi (written around 400 years ago) or if you are lucky "100 flowers wrong fist". Even boxing started out as what we might recognise today as Mixed Martial arts around 300 years ago.

This is a worrying trait amongst JKD'ers, that I hear time and time again. It shows very little understanding of martial arts in general. I do not mean to have a go, but to highlight a damaging mind set.

To answer your original question, it is irrelevant what we think Bruce might have said, solely because we can never know. What is relevant is what we can say about MMA today. If we try to think through other people how can we think for ourselves, if we limit ourselves to what we believe to be the thoughts of another.

MMA, K1 etc is very healthy for the martial arts community. It has for the first time made accessable to all a forum via which can test ourselves against our peers from other styles.

Here in England I have noticed a radical change. Where as 4 years ago, we were the only club in our city (population 500k) doing what may be called MMA today (we just called it Kung Fu), now there are a number or schools. This can only be good for us as there are more people that can provide an effective challenge which can only push us to get better.

Anyways enough of me lecturing, I shall get off my horse. Apologese if any of this sounds condesending, its just the way I right.

No matter what, MMA-NHB is still sports, where you train to play by rules.

Real combat has no rules. So Bruce would probably say about it what he used to say about Boxing, "..good left, Ali.." and keep enjoying the match!

I like to watch K1, especialy Bukaw Pramuk, but i know i can knawk him out! in a real fight [ouch] So what?

Train with Aim.

Really? You could "knock out" a pro kickboxer who does K1? And what do YOU do? In what have you competed?

(Don't insult me by saying, "street fighting")
