I never, ever, use the windshield wipers so I took them off. They just get in the way when I want to use a squeegee to clean the window. We do, however, look at the windshield wiper motors ALL THE TIME and a little attention to this detail will help upgrade the feel of the entire boat.
I pulled the motors out and took them apart. I stripped all the old paint off and used a wire brush wheel on them to clean them up. I then shot them with a coat of primer, and In order to go with the mahogany stain, I decided to use a maroon auto paint (which happened to be a Chrysler color). As a result, what was once an ugly "thing" up there, is now something that looks quite aesthetically pleasing. It's not the original color, but I think it's an improvement.
I was able to tug on the original wires enough to get some nice clean stock to appear, which I trimmed and installed after cutting off the dried up and cracked exposed ends.
