Red Nichols was born in Ogden, Uth, on May 8, 1905. Next May 8 will be Red's 100th birthday.
The latest issue of the International Association of Jazz Records Collectors Journal (Vol. 37, No. 2, Spring 2004; this issue is almost one year late!!) devotes one page to this important topic. E. B. "Woody" Backensto wrote the foreword for the book "The Red Nichols Story, After Intermission, 1942-1965" by Philip Evans, Stanley Hester, Stephen Hester and Linda Evans. Stephen Hester posts in the forum as Steve, and we are happy to have him aboard. Mr. Backensto is trying to promote commemorative activities for Red's centennial. The article by Perry Huntoon ends with the following announcement.
"For all who care about Red Nichols, please contact Wdoody directly to express your interest and offer suggestions for making 2005 a memorable centenial year:

Steve, aside from writing to Woody and making announcements here, what can I do to publicize the centennial? I am a great admirer of Red Nichols, and we have mentioned him in the forum many a time. I regularly play Red Nichols recordings over WBIX and I will devote the May program to Red. What else?
