How can I fix low volume on one track?
Copy the entire track into a spare track (manual p41) then bounce both tracks (manual p29) into the original.

Double the volume and no loss of quality thanks to the wonders of digital! .... also, you can try this idea from Rickkk.
Sounds bigger too if you add a 50-100ms delay to it.

great for layering vocals.

Why no effects when transfering to PC?
here's the answer from Pedwards....
In order for the effects to show up in tracks on the card reader you need to do a bounce. In other words you need to set up the track(s) that you want to have the effect and set the level etc and then bounce them to another track. Then you will use the bounced track when you are selecting them on your card reader and they will have the effects added.

Can you explain about V-Takes?
I'll try....
There are four "real"-tracks. You can only playback four real-tracks at once. (this is a "fourtrack" after all!)
Each real-track has 8 "virtual"-tracks or "takes" (like the Takes on movie clapper boards.... "take 2, scene 1" for example). You can record a second Take on any of the real-tracks by selecting that real-track to record then accessing the v-track menu (manual p28) and picking any Take from 2 - 8. you can then record with out erasing your original Take and without bouncing.

....I hope this is making sense so far....

Using this system a few times (i always use a table and pencil to remember where all the recordings are!) you can have up to 32 Takes of different recordings.

Is the sound quality any good?
Would I put all this effort into running a forum and website if the sound was crap?....

The sound is near CD quality. Close enough for human ears not to be able to tell the difference. (scientific Fact!)

Do I need any other equipment?
A good pair of head phones is a must. If you only use a monitor system (ie. your stereo or amp) you will get feedback when you record.

A 128MB SmartMedia card is highly recommended. They can be picked up pretty cheap. (check out the links section for more detail.) You will be pulling your hair out if stuck with just the supplied card. see what others think by checking out the current poll in the feedback section.

What's the easiest way to get a demo on CD?
Here's some great advice from Rudo....
The easiest, cheapest and quickest way is to mix on the MRS, at least that's how I work. I know there is a lot of software which can do this as well but I like working with the MRS better. What I do is bounce 4 tracks to two with the needed effects, without mixdown effects. Than I record 1 or two more tracks and in the final bounce mixdown I use the mixdown effects (mostly boost or power).
When I have copied the files to my PC I burn the final mixdown tracks with NERO to a CD.
Wise words indeed. I try to remember that I'm not a producer (if I were I'd by bigger more powerfull equipment.) and if a song is good it will still sound good weather I mix it down perfectly or chuck it down on a dicta-phone.... and I'm sure any venue owners or label scouts out there will agree.

Can you waltz?
I thought you'd never ask....
Of course you can. The built in metronome goes from 0/4 - 8/4.
